Back by popular demand, we’re offering our mental health track in the Game to Grow Method of Therapeutically Applied Role-Playing Games in a weekly class format! This weekly live format will let you dive into the material with room to process between classes, and allow you to develop connections with your cohort. As part of this cohort, you’ll be added to a private Facebook group where you can connect with your cohort mates, discuss the trainings, and schedule TTRPG games together! If you’re looking for a facilitated introduction to TTRPGs or GMing, we’ve created opportunities for you to have hands-on, small group TTRPG practice when you add one of our new player or GM workshops to your class!
Classes meet virtually on Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm pacific. To see more information about the content of each training, click on the name of each training.
Level One
This training will support you in developing foundational knowledge in the Game to Grow Method of TA-RPGs, and will be able to communicate effectively with parents, clients, and administrators about the benefits and potential risks of Therapeutically Applied Role-Playing Games. This level is a great fit for experienced game masters, as well as those who have never picked up a die!
Dates (You must attend all three): January 11th, 18th, and 25th
CE Credits: 6 CE credits
New to TTRPGs? Add our New Player Experience! This workshop allows participants to play through an adventure, with opportunities to see “behind the screen” to understand the GM’s thinking, plans, and tactics. This group meets virtually on Thursdays from 4-6pm on January 12, 19, and 26.
Level Two
The level two training builds on the theory and strategies introduced in the level one training to improve your skills as a therapeutic game master. It will be interactive and include small group work to further practice techniques and deepen your understanding of the material. In particular, you will learn about designing in-game encounters with treatment goals, the skills of effective therapeutic game masters, and how to navigate common barriers to treatment. Before taking the level two training, you must have completed a level one training and participated in at least 6 hours of a TTRPG as a player before the course starts.
Dates (You must attend all three): February 1nd, 8th, and 15th
CE Credits: 6 CE credits
Ready to step behind the GM’s screen with our Introductory GM Workshop? This level is for individuals who feel comfortable playing TTRPGs and are generally familiar with the rules, but want experience GMing in a safe and collaborative environment. Participants are welcome to bring in their own encounters, or can be provided with encounters from Critical Core. This group meets virtually on Thursdays from 4-6pm on February 2nd, 9th, and 16th.
Level Three
The level three is the culmination of the mental health track. Like level two, it is interactive and includes small group work to further practice techniques and deepen your understanding of the material. This training delves deeper into case conceptualization, aligning TA-RPGs with your treatment modality, documentation, and marketing. Following this training, you will be able to implement TA-RPG groups in populations with which you have familiarity and experience. Before taking the level three training, you must have completed a level one and two training and participated in at least 4 hours of a TTRPG as a GM before the course starts.*
Dates (You must attend all three): February 22nd, March 1st, March 8th
CE Credits: 6 CE credits
