Magic: The Gathering is a well-known collectible trading card game that often involves complex trees of dynamically interacting decisions. The game provides a fantastic opportunity for reflection and personal growth because the players who are most successful are those that utilize both tactical understanding and flexible thinking. Add in “drafting”, and the experience is especially ripe for personal development. This 10-week group harnesses the inherent potential in Magic: The Gathering, guiding participants to practice mindfulness skills when confronted with difficult choices and bad luck, and helping players develop the habits that will lead to long-term success in many areas of life. We’ll have a focus on sportsmanship and a growth mindset that will continue long after the last card is played!
Players should know how to play Magic: The Gathering before they begin the group.
All materials will be provided. Players may bring their own cards to show other players, but the cards used in the sessions will all be provided and maintained by Game to Grow.
The Magic and Mindfulness group meets at the Game to Grow headquarters from 6:30 to 8:00 for 11 sessions: January 6 to March 30, with no groups on January 20th for MLK Day and no groups on February 17th for President’s Day. The facilitators for this group are Akira Sakoda and Andrew Brazzale.
Cost: $660. We have a very flexible variable rate based on need. If you’d like to discuss a reduced rate, please let us know.
